A survey in the United States showed that when searching online most people want results right on the front page. Two research companies Jupiter Research and iProspect found that people would only see up to three pages of search results.

Two research companies Jupiter Research and iProspect found that people would only see up to three pages of search results. The study also found that one-third of users thought that the company that appeared on page one was the top names.

Researchers investigated 2,369 internet users in the United States. 62% click on at least one result on the first page, up 14% from 2002. About 90% click on a link on the results page, up 9% compared to 2002. 41% find by Different software, or change text if you don't see what they want to find on the first page.

IProspect chairman Robert Murray said the findings showed that it was important to appear on the first page of the results. He said the performance of search software improved with user skills.

" They know what they want and want to find it right away, and most want to see results right on the front page ," Murray said.

" Businesses who are upgrading their websites, or making new websites, need to be satisfied that if people don't find out, no one will look at them ."

Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Watch, said that the results confirmed what people still know, " How to appear on the front page because that's where most people go ."

" This is also a bell to remind search software companies to review the results ."

" Companies that want to increase their ability to attract consumers need to have good websites, lots of words, and good links on them ."
