The project " Flash flood monitoring and warning using M2M technology and cloud computing" has been implemented in Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province from March 2014 to April 2015.

To date, KDDI and Waseda University have collaborated with functional units to install 6 sensors, transmission lines and servers . to gather information to monitor water levels and water speeds to warn floods for people. Nam Tra My.

Dr. Vu Truong Thanh, lecturer of the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, said the use of M2M technology and cloud computing in flood warnings has created certain advantages.

For sensors that have been installed at critical points, they will be transmitted to the center to handle flood parameters. From there, the processing center will synthesize and make decisions appropriate to each level.

Specifically, if there is heavy rain but not yet reached the flood level, the Center will text in the email box of the officials in charge of disaster prevention and search and rescue of the locality.

In case, the risk of flooding occurs, the center will also text (SMS) to the phones of those who are in charge of disaster prevention in order to timely handle.

When the flood appears, the Center will transmit instructions to the warning parts attached at critical points so that the system signals by sound and light to alert people not to go through this area. , or have a safe evacuation plan.

As a locality often affected by natural disasters, every year, Quang Nam province has many storms and floods that cause great loss of material and lives of people.

In addition, Quang Nam has complex terrain, very fast flooding in a short time so the forecasting and limiting impacts of natural disasters are still difficult. Therefore, when the project "Monitoring and warning of flash floods using M2M technology and cloud computing" is put into use, it is possible to detect early changes in water levels of upstream rivers and streams, thereby early detection of flash flood risks and informing people to limit the harmful effects of natural disasters.

Vice Chairman of Quang Nam People's Committee Le Van Thanh said that the construction of flood warning systems using modern technology has contributed to strengthening the capacity of forecasting, preventing and reducing natural disasters.

The success of the project not only mitigates the damage caused by natural disasters in the locality but will become a point model, which can be replicated, creating effective tools to contribute to protecting people in the first place. Frequent and unpredictable movements of climate change./.
