Samsung launched the first hybrid hard drive market

Samsung Electronics began selling its first hybrid hard drive models for laptops and is compatible with the ReadyDrive feature in Windows Vista.

Hybrid hard drives are a combination of magnetic storage and flash memory, which reduces energy consumption by 70-90% compared to traditional hard drives - Samsung's commitment.

With ReadyDrive, flash memory will act as a temporary memory, greatly reducing the number of direct access to the hard disk, and thus maximizing power consumption. Because data can be stored quickly and accessed from flash memory, ReadyDrive allows PC to boot faster from hibernation.

Software support for ReadyDrive is only available in Windows Vista so other operating systems do not enjoy this technology.

The first three models of Samsung's hybrid hard drives include: 80GB, 120GB and 160GB, combined with 128MB and 256MB flash memory. This flash memory capacity is equal to the similar memory models that Samsung introduced at the WinHEC Conference last year.

Meanwhile, Intel also said it has developed a similarly competitive system with the name "Robson", based on the combination of flash memory with the PC board, and will be integrated into the Santa Rosa laptop platform. - scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year.
