Samsung launches an ultra-thin OLED display

Samsung SDI said on Dec. 27 that it has successfully produced an ultra-thin 31-inch OLED organic screen. Analysts say this information will add another stir to the race of producing organic screens worldwide.

The manufacturer says the 31-inch OLED display is only 4.3mm thick - which is only as thin as about one-tenth of an LCD screen. Power consumption is only about half the LCD screen. The use of 31-inch OLED can be up to 35,000 thousand hours.

Samsung SDI's move can be considered the answer for rival Sony. Last November, Japan's leading electronics manufacturer launched 11-inch OLED TV products. The company has previously launched a 27-inch OLED TV prototype.

Samsung SDI leaders refused to disclose when the 31-inch OLED screen product was put into commercial production, but said that time would depend heavily on its production plan next year.

Expected Samsung Electronics - Samsung SDI's parent company - will bring the prototype of the 31-inch OLED display to the show at the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2008 held in the city of Las Vegas (USA). ) in January here.
