Sony sells Blu-ray white disc

Sony has officially sold single-layer Blu-ray DVD discs on May 9, all of which are equipped with advanced Blu-ray burning technology called AccuCORE. Two-layer Blu-ray discs will be officially sold in early June 2006.

These Blu-ray discs are capable of recording data at 2x speed, ie data transfer rates can reach 72 Megabits per second (about 9 MB per second). AccuCORE is a form of Blu-ray burning technology with very high stability and flexibility.

White Blu-ray discs sold in this batch include read-only BD-R 25 GB and BD-RE multiple erase at $ 20 and $ 25 per disc respectively. The dual-layer Blu-ray discs BD-R 50GB and BD-RE 50GB sold in early June will have a retail price of 48 and 60 USD per disc respectively.
