Echandia Marine, Sweden, said it will soon launch an electric ferry with fast charging capability. Accordingly, it takes only 10 minutes to charge the battery, which is a one-hour ferry that can carry 100 passengers each, connecting the two banks of Solna Strand and Gamla Stand.

Thus, when passengers check-in on the ferry, the ferry starts charging and when they stabilize their seats, the battery is full to prepare for the journey. The ferry is named Movitz , which is more fuel-efficient and more environmentally friendly than conventional ferries. Enchandia Marine announced it was the world's first super-fast charging electric ferry.

The simplicity of the electric drive system is expected to reduce 30% of operating costs compared to conventional ferries. Compared to a similar diesel ferry, Movitz runs smoother and cleaner; Each year, no more than 50,000 liters of oil are burned, avoiding harmful emissions to the environment (130 tons of carbon dioxide and 1.5 tons of nitrogen oxides). Ferry fast charging is very suitable for vehicles of short distance about 7.5km. The ferry using Nilar Nickel-Metal-Hydride high-tech rechargeable battery provides power for two POD 125kW engines.

Gizmag magazine said that according to plan, Movitz electric ferry will officially operate in August this year. In order to compete with the Movitz ferry, Norway is also working on a similar ferry but a larger payload, not only passenger but also many cars, expected to launch in 2015.
