Dust ash, hot air and lava flow also affect the Berastepu River and some other rivers located in the southeast and south of the volcano because the lava flows have made the river water rise.

Authorities worry about affecting the serious environment in case of heavy rains, and recommend that people should evacuate to a radius of 5-7km and should not approach the above rivers.

The columns of smoke along with the ash of the volcano created a layer of 10cm thick ash covering many nearby villages, destroying thousands of hectares of crops and many vegetable fields and many other agricultural products.

Some villages were isolated due to ash and lava covered. Medan city is the place that suffered the most severe consequences from ash, people in the village were given gas masks to avoid the risk of air pollution.

Sinabung volcano is located in Karo district, North Sumatra, 2,457m high, has been active again since last September after sleeping for 400 years. By November and December, this volcano suddenly erupted strongly, forcing the authorities to expand the evacuation area from within 3km radius to 5km.
