The center will be built on an area of 9 hectares in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and deployed in the period of 2010 - 2017. The total amount of the project is 350 million USD from Japanese ODA loans, with 14 offices features such as satellite manufacturing, integration and testing centers, magnetic testing areas, satellite control and application centers and observatory model houses. The feasibility report of the project will be completed by the end of 2008 to submit to the governments of Vietnam and Japan.
Currently the necessary work for the construction of the center has been completed so that by 2017, the technical infrastructure will be completed. Since then, a team of Vietnamese experts can master the technology and make small satellites under 500 kg for observation of the earth at the center. This will be the first center in Vietnam and the first in the region, to effectively implement the "Strategy for research and application of space technology to 2020" according to the prime minister's decision.
Space technology is a high-tech field formed by integrating many different technology industries to create vehicles such as satellites, spacecraft, rockets, ground stations . to discover, to serving and using space to serve human interests. Therefore, the construction of this center in Vietnam is necessary and can serve both immediate and long-term benefits.
In addition to self-manufacturing small satellites capable of taking photos of the entire territory of Vietnam in all weather conditions by radar and optical technology, the center will help build and process satellite remote sensing data. help to monitor and early warning of natural disasters, environmental disasters, forecast of agricultural and marine resources, update electronic map system for land planning and construction of navigation and digging systems create remote
