As a member of VNPT, since the end of 1995, VTI has researched, implemented and put into operation the satellite communication system VSAT DAMA to provide basic services such as voice, fax and speed data transmission. low degree. These services have contributed to economic and social development, ensuring national security and defense for many border areas and islands.
However, with the continuous development of modern telecommunications technology in recent years, VSAT DAMA technology has gradually revealed limitations. To meet the demands of society, VNPT / VTI has surveyed service needs and topographic features of Vietnam. The research and construction of the project has been carried out since 2003. After more than 1 year of studying many different technological solutions, the VSAT-IP solution has been selected. This is a new technology capable of providing many different services with lower cost compared to traditional information technology. The project was approved, the VSAT-IP gate station in Que Duong and Ha Tay started construction and was completed in November 2005.
Since August 2005, VTI has simultaneously installed VSAT-IP in remote areas of 17 provinces and cities across the country. By the end of December 2005, 124 VSAT-IP stations were installed and put into operation, meeting the state's target of telephone universalization to 100% of communes in 2005.
