According to a study by IDC, there will be a shortage of 396,000 skilled network professionals across the Asia Pacific region in 2009, compared with 210,000 in 2006. In particular, in Vietnam, The current number lacks is about 800 skilled network experts, which will increase to 1,900 in 2009.
This study was conducted with more than 1,000 members of senior and intermediate management positions in 12 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
According to the study, there will be a shortage of 221,000 professionals by 2009 with advanced network technology skills in wireless, security, and IP telephony in Asia Pacific, compared with 113,000. of 2006.
In addition to that number, this study also shows data such as skill gap ratio corresponding to demand in many different areas of network technology.
The study found that in the Asia Pacific region, the gap in advanced network technology skills in 2006 was 21% compared to 16% for general network skills. The higher demand for advanced network technology is expected to continue to increase until 2009 with a skill gap of 26% compared to 21% of network technologies in general.
In Vietnam, by 2009, the skill gap announced in advanced technology areas such as wireless network technology was 32% and IP voice was 23%. Network security is also a mainstream area with a skill gap that may reach 18%.
Mr. James Chia, General Manager, Cisco Systems Vietnam, said: ' Rapid application of network technologies in businesses across the Asia Pacific region will boost demand for these skills and even a higher demand for advanced wireless, security and IP telephony skills .
' In order to minimize the negative impacts of these skills gaps on the domestic economy as well as the regional economy in general, governments, businesses and educational institutions need to coordinate more closely work together to take actions right now to create appropriate skill development programs . ' - Mr. James Chia added.
However, the situation of increasingly scarce human resources has opened new opportunities for IT human resources training industry in Asia Pacific countries in general and in Vietnam in particular.
Specifically, education and training organizations have the opportunity to create appropriate training programs that help narrow this gap in their country.Students and experts are also advised to take advantage of the available career options in the field of advanced technology networks.
