Dell sells computers via resellers in China

Dell announced on September 24 that it will begin to delegate the power of PC retailing to China. This is the company's effort to gain a bigger market share in this growing market.

The decision also extends Dell's strategy beyond the phone and Internet sales model and makes it a competitive activity with Hewlett-Packard and other competitors.

Dell also chose China as its development target for low-cost computers launched in March and targeted to customers in rural areas.

According to Michael Tatelman, Dell's vice president of marketing and sales, sales will begin with 50 Gome Group stores from next month and then expand to other stores in 2008.

Dell is a company headquartered in Round Rock, Texas, and has been at the top of the world in PC sales with a low-cost direct selling method. But since last year, HP has surpassed this position and Dell has started to retail again, even through recent business deals with Wl-Mart Stores in the US, Bic Camera in Japan and Carphone Warehouse PLC in the UK.

Dell computers sold in Gome will include XPS M1330 and Inspiron 1420 laptops, XPS 720, Dimension 9200 and Inspiron 530 desktops.
