Ms. Hoang Thi Hoan (65 years old), in Hung Son commune, Trang Dinh district, Lang Son, said her hilly garden has an ancient bitter tea tree which is considered to be the biggest tea tree in Vietnam.
We came to this garden in the presence of many people in the village, the diameter of the tea tree measured was 2m. Tree stump (close to the ground) measured 2.4m. The tree is about 30m tall, the canopy is 25m 2 wide (photo).
Ms. Hoan said that this tea tree has been in her forest land for a long time. At first did not know what tree was, later found that people carrying bitter tea varieties in Cao Bang only knew it was bitter tea. Every time she wants to pick leaves, she has to use a very long ladder to climb up to pick the leaves.
Dr. Tran Van Gia, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Tea Association said that in Vietnam, tea plants are currently ranked as the most record in terms of diameter of tea in Xom Hau, Ta Sin Thang commune, Tua Chua district, Dien province Record. This tree has a diameter of 0.7m and is considered to be the dominant tree of Vietnam. So bitter tea tree with a diameter of 2m in Lang Son is indeed the biggest tea tree in Vietnam.
