While gardening, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung and his wife (36 years old, Yen Vinh village, Hung Dong commune, Vinh City, Nghe An province have been able to dig an ancient jar weighing nearly 10kg.

Scientists identified the ancient coins of the Song Dynasty dating back to about 960-1279.

Mr. Tung said that around 11:30 am on December 29, the couple was renovating their home garden and discovered an ancient jar located below 1.2m depth.

Through the examination, the broken china jar contained hundreds of ancient coins. The whole amount has round shape, square hole, 2.4cm diameter, 0.1cm thick, the front is engraved with Chinese characters. When weighing, the amount of coins weighs approximately 10kg.

Many ancient coins were oxidized and bound into blocks. Although left in the ground for a long time and tarnished, this amount is still intact and clear. Based on Chinese characters on coins, experts research and collect antiques, in which Mr. Dao Tam Tinh (Library Director of Nghe An province) judged that the money from Mr. Tung was belonged to the Song Dynasty. Great dating back to 960-1279. Over thousands of years, many coins read clearly the above printed Chinese characters such as: Nguyen Phong, Thong Bao, Nguyen Huu, Chinh Hoa .

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Hop (68 years old, Mr. Tung's father) said that the garden area where he used to have rich landowners lived, it is possible that this is their property buried in the ground to hide.
