Japanese technology firm has just announced a 200 GB Travelstar 7K200 hard drive for laptops, with optional encryption technology to protect sensitive information.

In a technique called Bulk Data Encryption, data is protected by a key when written to the hard disk and returned to its normal state with this code. Technology is rated more secure than file and system level encryption.

The device has a size of 2.5 inches, a rotation speed of 7,200 revolutions per minute, but the power consumption and heat generated when operating is only 5,400 rpm. The product for $ 249 will be available this summer. Dell and Alienware will be the first two partner companies to use this hard drive in their products.

Seagate hard drive company also pursued the goal of encrypting hard drive level data with Momentus 5400 FDE.2. This 5,400 rpm device has a capacity of 160 GB and access authentication mechanism before entering the drive.
