Over the years, the International Domain Name Organization has granted more new domains such as .eu, .asia, .travel . to keep up with the website's development momentum. However, they will have to remove some of the domain names that have been granted but are 'abandoned', for example .gb for England is not favored by .uk.

The .cs domain name is no longer used after Czecslovakia previously separated into Czech Republic ( .cz ) and Slovakia ( .sk ). Serbia and Montenegro then received the domain name .cs but never used it because they split again into Serbia (.rs) and Montenegro (.me).

Some other domains have disappeared from the cyber world, for example .dd of East Germany or .zr of Zaire after it became the Democratic Republic of Congo ( .cd ).

ICANN codes domain names for countries according to ISO international standards with information from the United Nations. The list of 265 domains to be deleted is being solicited online for comments.
