Yesterday (October 24), Intel unveiled a plan to reduce the price range of its microprocessor chips. It is expected that users will start buying Intel products at new prices this weekend.

Analysts say this is Intel's answer to AMD's cost-cutting move.

Intel rival AMD yesterday announced a decision to cut the price of Turion 64 X2, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 and some Sempron products. It is estimated that the price of AMD products decreases by 35.8% during this period.

Under this plan, the price of Celeron D chips will decrease by 8-22%, to 69USD. Meanwhile, Celeron M 430 and 420 products will enjoy discounts of 36% and 20%, respectively.

In this price cut, Intel also cut the price of its energy-efficient processor Duo Duo L2400 series. And the price of Pentiums 915 and 820 will also decrease by 15% and 18%.

In addition to reducing product prices, Intel also launched a new product, Celeron D 347 3.06GHz 512KB L2, Celeron M 440 1.86GHz and 450 2GHz. The new chips are all manufactured on the 65-nanometer technology line.

Next month, Intel will launch the world's first quad-core chip Core 2 Entreme QX6700. And early next year, Intel will launch a series of new products, including the Core 2 Quad Q6600 and Pentium chip on the Core 2 Duo microarchitecture.
