Microsoft on March 8 said this month it will not release a periodic security update. This is not the first time that Microsoft has not released a monthly update.

A Microsoft spokesman said the company is building a security patch for Internet Explorer 7, Office 2007 and Windows Vista. These patches are not currently available for release on schedule as of 2003.

The last time Microsoft did not release a monthly update was in September 2005. This update is often called "The Third Day Patch" because it is released on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Although it does not release security updates, Microsoft will still release two other non-security updates for Windows Updates and Software Update Services. There are also 4 other updates for Microsoft Update and Windows Server Update Services.

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool has also been upgraded to the new version on schedule. However, this security tool will not be released through Software Update Services this time, but users must go to the Microsoft website to download it.
