HP just surpassed Dell in the race to win the throne
HP has just surpassed Dell in the race to win the "No. 1 PC maker in the world" after three years with many decisions and marketing strategies launched.
The ranking was published by Gartner on October 19, according to which HP sold about 110,000 more units than Dell (by the end of the third quarter of this year).
According to Gartner, Dell's growth rate in 2006 was the lowest in the past few years. Dell's worldwide sales of PCs increased by 3.6%; while global market share decreased by 0.4% (compared to the same period last year).
Meanwhile, HP's business seems to flourish in many areas, with the total number of PCs sold to the market increase by 15.4% (compared to the same period last year). HP's market share also increased from 15.1% (last year) to 16.3% this year.
Also related to the world PC market, Gartner predicts global consumption will grow 6.7% in the third quarter; while IDC predicts an increase of 7.9%.
