If this statement becomes true, Fujitsu will become the first in the world to release a line of desktop computers compatible with the new generation optical disc format.

Fujitsu's announcement came just a day after Toshiba announced plans to release laptops with HD-DVD drives in mid-May to the world market. However, unlike Toshiba, Fujitsu pursued a "two-carry" policy. By June, they will also launch a line of notebooks equipped with HD DVD drives.

According to Fujitsu spokesperson, the new desktop model will be equipped with a 37-inch liquid crystal display and an incredibly high price - 600,000 yen, equivalent to 5063 USD. Meanwhile, the laptop model will be cheaper, only about 400,000 yen, which is equivalent to the retail price of HD DVD laptops from Toshiba.

The heart of both of these new generation DVD formats is the blue laser, which uses shorter wavelengths of red lasers used in today's DVD devices. As a result, the optical disc can store more data, suitable for high definition movies and television.
