Discovered 12 new frog species in India

The group of researchers from Delhi University, India's zoological survey and Belgium's Vrije University found 12 frog species belonging to the genus Nyctibatrachus, according to the Indian Electronic Journal.

Zoologists have discovered 12 species of night frogs in the tropical rainforest of the Western Ghats mountains of India, including those that have been missing for decades.

SD Biju Das, University of Delhi's Ecology Laboratory, said: ' Night frogs often live in fast-flowing or wet forests. It is also the only group of frogs that can fertilize and reproduce without a physical connection. '

"Surprisingly, this frog lives with dinosaurs, but they still exist. However, if the current trend continues, the existence of the newly discovered frog can disappear forever. " Mr. SD Biju Das added.

He also warned that, among these species, 6 species are living in unsafe environments, need to have a plan to preserve them.

Besides 12 new frog species, scientists also saw 3 other frog species that they thought were extinct for a long time. It was the frog species Coorg night not seen for 91 years, Kempholey night frog and sylvaticus night frog were missing 75 years.
